The Dance of Deference

is OVER. We are NOT GOING BACK. My Mind, My Body, My Freedom. No more, no less...

Angry? Am I ANGRY? Of course I'm angry. This has been a long, hard road in a long, glorious, but often painful and difficult life.  

Just because I'm a woman and was born a baby girl.

 

Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Janet Yellen was asked what reversing the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling would mean economically for the country; Yellen responded, "I believe that eliminating the right of women to make decisions about when and whether to have children would have very damaging effects on the economy and would set women back decades." She also said that keeping women from accessing abortions "increases their odds of living in poverty or need for public assistance".

Thanks, guys, and Grandpa's Old Patriarchy Party females. You've been working on this since Watergate, and NOW WHAT? Not everybody is with you on this thing, and the planet frankly has bigger fish to fry. Thanks A Lot. 

 What am I reading? The Testaments (The Handmaid’s Tale #2) by Margaret Atwood, The Soul of a Woman by Isabel Allende, and the Future of Democracy book group is reading Fascism: A Warning, by Madeline Albright.

Because the enforcement of “writs of assistance” signed by British Colonial judges were being irregularly “served out as general search warrants that did not expire,” “between 1775 and 1760,” the Fourth Amendment “Privacy Right” was Constitutionalized particularly in defense of colonists’ persons and property. Our independence as sovereign human beings.

Wikipedia says “The Fourth Amendment was the Framers' attempt to protect each citizen's spiritual and intellectual integrity,” as well. John Adams was to later assert that the court battles preceding the Declaration of Independence and Constitution over these particular rights were the "seeds of the American Revolution."”

WE never allowed the government to pry into our private lives in the 1950s (we thought). We had just “defeated Fascism in Europe!” No jackbooted thugs coming in and kicking down doors in the USA! (see Jan. 6^th 2021) (Brionna Taylor home invasion and murder) (Tulsa massacre 1921…) At least not in the lily-white suburbs and tract housing, anyway. The House Un-American Activities Commission damaged lives and destroyed livelihoods searching for Communists, both real and imagined, but was eventually exposed and defeated as the government overreach it clearly was.

WE were, in the ‘60s, sexually “liberated” and “free.” But something was wrong… Women realized how brutal and deeply rooted misogyny was, in spite of The Pill, the “Sexual Revolution” and the equalized education system we grew up with. Even in the organizations working to keep young men from getting drafted, we couldn’t “make policy, not coffee.”

We hit the Glass Ceiling like the carefully designed and maintained brick wall that it was. We suffered, sorrowed, struggled, staggered and far too often deferred and despaired before overwhelming power. THEN we “raised our consciousnesses,” spoke out, worked our way up to dignity and rebelled; physically and legally; individually and together.   

Muriel Rukeyser said “no more mythologies,” Adrienne Rich said “the personal IS the political,” and The Second Wave of Feminism was born. The Equal Rights Amendment failed to get states’ ratification to pass, but at least we had Roe v. Wade.

By confiscating property and people’s labor; raping, beating, imprisoning and killing us with judicial and state-sanctioned impunity, the British aristocracy, military, spies and gangs kept the Colonists in check. WHY WOULD WE WANT TO GO BACK THERE? WHY CREATE A (another) TOTALITARIAN STATE IN THE USA?

Eliminating Roe v Wade gives law enforcement and random intruders the means and encouragement to spy, press charges and enforce domestic terrorism. WOMEN ARE GOING TO DIE. There are already too many of us being trafficked, harassed, underpaid and exploited. Just STOP!

Back-street abortions are just PRIVATE LYNCHINGS of WOMEN, disproportionately affecting BIPOC, Southern, rural and poor families, of course. Reproductive health care is HEALTH CARE. For live, mature women, our families, children and communities as well. Every child a wanted child. Every State a Free State...

We have better things to do than fight this battle for Liberation all over again! If you hate abortion DON’T HAVE ONE. If you're a man or past childbearing age, gender differing, unmarried or asexual, you could lose the rights to your bodily choices and legal integrity, too.

America, forced to swallow the British parliament's Intolerable Acts of 1774 as Mother England, Spain and France stand by.

Remember this one? Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Coney Barrett ALL lied under oath to the U.S. Senators interviewing them about protecting Roe v. Wade under stare decis, the precedent set and practiced as law for nearly 50 years. It's a sad day for our democratic republic when not only are politicians bought off, fooled and manipulated by the power-brokers and tyrants, but the Supreme Court Justices, too.
