DOWD ZINGS GOP IN NYT OP ED – “A LOST CIVILIZATION” SUNDAY DECEMBER 9, 2012

Many are the times I have rolled my eyes and gone on to something else reading Maureen Dowd’s columns, but not this one. The only thing I disagree with her on in “A Lost Civilization” is the inevitability of Hillary and Bill Clinton riding in as the conquerors after the Republicans are “finally wiped from the earth” in 2016, pretty much hoist by their own petard. We don’t know for sure that the G.O.P. won’t become the Fourth Reich by means of the Heritage Foundation if their divided PACs and think tanks consolidate in the meantime and somehow eliminate that specific opposition, nor do we have the prescience to see exactly who that small (-minded) “group of thoughtful, committed citizens” want to take down, but Dowd certainly has a good handle on how and why the 2012 G.O.P. election meltdown occurred and what led up to it.
